Answering your SudokuCon questions

Hello, friends! Clover here, on behalf of the SudokuCon organizing team. I’m reaching out to thank you for filling out our recent interest survey, and to let you know that you’ve been successfully added to the mailing list. You can now expect to receive occasional email updates on the SudokuCon planning process, along with some other goodies (read: bonus puzzles).

We appreciate all of the kind, enthusiastic, and detailed feedback we received from you all! We’ve been discussing the responses at length, and we’ll be leaning heavily on the suggestions you all made as we plan out the schedule for the con weekend.

I also want to give you clear and official responses to four concerns that came up many times in the survey results:

  1. Many of you expressed regret that you won’t be able to travel internationally (or cross-country) for the event. We hear you! From the very beginning, even before last year’s fundraiser, we’ve been developing plans to host future SudokuCon events at other venues, very likely in Europe. The very first SudokuCon, however, will take place in the Boston area, MA, USA.

  2. There were also many, many questions about making some or all of the event accessible online. After the success of the November fundraiser, we’re particularly excited about doing this, and we’re making plans to provide an online component for at least some of the con. As we get a clearer sense of the demand and of our own capabilities, we’ll give you more updates on what form that might take.

  3. We agree with the many respondents who expressed how much you’d love to meet Simon and Mark from Cracking the Cryptic. While we’re huge CtC fans, we’d like to clarify that SudokuCon is not affiliated with CtC, and there are currently no plans for Simon or Mark to attend.

  4. We've officially selected the Hilton Boston-Dedham in Dedham, MA as the venue, and if you're sure you'll be joining us, you're already welcome to reserve your room there via this link. If it doesn’t automatically populate, use the discount code SUDOKU.

Thanks for reading, and don’t hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] or by joining our planning Discord server at https://discord.gg/KnQ9uK2b.

To say thank you for reading all of that, how about a quick bonus sudoku from none other than James Sinclair? Normal 6×6 sudoku rules apply; along green lines, adjacent digits must have a difference of 3 or more.

yours,
